Refractive Outcomes of Cataract Surgery Using Zeiss Artificial Intelligence Calculator versus Barrett Universal II and Kane 🔥
This multicenter study of 246 cataract surgery patients compared the accuracy of the new Zeiss AI IOL Calculator (ZAIC) against two established formulas, Barrett Universal II and Kane, for predicting the correct lens power. The Zeiss AI calculator demonstrated superior performance with lower prediction errors and higher accuracy rates, with 82% of eyes achieving results within 0.5 diopters of the predicted outcome compared to 76% for Barrett Universal II. The AI-powered calculator performed equally well whether using standard or total keratometry measurements and showed comparable results to the Kane formula. This research supports the use of artificial intelligence in improving surgical planning for cataract procedures, potentially leading to better visual outcomes for patients by more accurately predicting the optimal intraocular lens power needed for each individual eye.
