Don’t Fear the Optic Nerve – A Review of the Optic Neuropathies

This course will provide an overview of optic neuropathies, including Anterior Non-Arteritic Ischemic Optic Neuropathy, Arteritic Ischemic Optic Neuropathy (including Giant Cell Arteritis), Optic Neuritis, and Toxic/Nutritional Optic Neuropathies. The pathophysiology of each disorder will be reviewed. Case examples, including the use of multimodal imaging such as OCT, OCTA, and Electrodiagnostics, will be presented to emphasize the work-up of patients with optic nerve head diseases. The optometrist's role in managing these diseases will be emphasized.
